Description

This is another plant that is familiar to many people. Not many know, however, that herbalists have for many years taken advantage of its distinct action on the skin to help with eczema and other skin rashes.

How It Works

Viola contains saponins. These ‘soap-like' molecules are able to soothe inflamed areas of skin and, in part, are responsible for the soothing effect of the herb when applied externally. The saponin content also makes Viola an ‘eliminative' remedy. Blood flow to the kidneys is enhanced as is the elimination of toxins. Viola also contains high levels of flavanoids which have the ability to stabilise capillary membranes. This is an important consideration in inflammatory conditions of the skin.
