Description

This is a remedy made from Jerusalem Artichoke, which is neither an artichoke nor hails from Jerusalem. Apart from those small complications it is very straightforward! It is a member of the sunflower family and contains decent amounts of inulin, which has a number of extremely useful properties.

How It Works

It is a dietary fibre, improving the passage of wastes through the bowel, the positive benefits of which has been discussed. Once the bowel is moving well, bloating and abdominal discomfort decreases and energy increases. The bulking effect of the inulin has the effect of minimising hunger pangs, reducing the need to snack continuously between meals. This snack-reducing effect is added to by the ability of inulin to balance blood sugar levels, keeping sugar cravings at bay. Inulin is a carbohydrate but does not trigger a response by the pancreas, so blood sugar levels do not fluctuate. It is the sharp rise and precipitous fall in blood sugar levels, following a meal containing refined sugars and carbohydrates, which triggers sugar cravings. People are often in despair at their inability to withstand chocolate and other sugary foods, not understanding that their blood sugar rather than their weak will is to blame. Inulin has another positive effect on the bowel in that it feeds friendly bacteria in the gut. When your friendly bacteria are functioning well, your bowel moves properly and you are better able to absorb and synthesise nutrients, meaning your body will be satisfied and not yearn for more food.
