Who is Framar Health?
We are based on the fashionable Lisburn Road in Belfast. Framar Health is an independant health store, which exclusively incorporates the Jan de Vries Natural Health Clinic for Northern Ireland. We are also a member of the National Association of Health Stores.
Framar History
Framar Health came on to the health scene in 1981 and since then has become a "mecca of natural care" to an increasing number of people who are interested in the complementary/alternative approach to health. Framar Health was originally founded on a partnership between Margaret Maconaghie and her son Paul. As a family the Maconaghies have been familiar for years with the use of Herbal and Homoeopathic medicines in their home in Belfast and also in Nigeria where they lived for fourteen years.

So in the early eighties with the rapidly growing public interest in the use of complementary medicines, when premises became available, they opened their first shop and clinic rooms in 1981. The partnership between Margaret and Paul continued until 1986 when David, Paul's twin brother returned from South Africa and became Paul's partner in opening a second shop and clinic rooms at 391 Ormeau Road, Belfast. Margaret then took over the administration of the company having obtained the Diploma of Health Food Retailing and been awarded a Fellowship of the Institute.
Framar Retail
The retail store has a comprehensive range of natural foods, nutritional, herbal and homeopathic medicines, natural toiletries, which include the world famous Dr. Hauschka skin care range. A free computer health information centre for the public is available in store and supplies up to date information on therapies, diets, natural remedies and a safety checker for the interaction of orthodox drugs when taken with alternative medicines. The same system is also included in our website.
The Jan de Vries Natural Health Clinic provides an extensive complementary medicine dispensary of herbal, homoeopathic and nutritional remedies. Therapies offered in the clinic include, Homoeopathy, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Podiatry/chiropody, Food Sensitivity testing, Nutritional assessment, Psychotherapy, Bio-energetic screening (Asyra pro), Aromatherapy, Reflexology, remedial and Sports Massage, Indian head massage, Tuina (Chinese physio), Reiki.
