An overactive bladder, bad breath and breaking wind - we all have embarrassing problems, which we are often too shy to talk about. But there's no need to suffer in silence as most are easily treatable. Read on for some common problems, the causes and some tips on what to do about them.
"My Breath Smells"
"Gum disease and tooth decay are the main causes of bad breath, although digestive problems, such as heartburn and excessive stomach acid, can also contribute, especially as we age," says Dr Denning, Director of The Health Doctors. "Often, we don't digest food as well as we used to. As a result, gases start to travel back up to the digestive tract and out through the mouth, and they can contribute to bad breath," she explains. Excess alchol and dehydration are other possible factors.
What You Can Do...
- See your dentist and hygienist regularly. Brush and floss your teeth well and don't forget to brush your tongueas well as your teeth.
- If things don't improve, make an appointment with your GP to check for digestive problems.
- Self-help tactics include chewing parsley and fresh mint, and making sure you drink lots of water.
